Matteo Undici is a multilingual Playback Theatre artist based in New Paltz, New York, USA with 25 years of professional performance and facilitation experience in public venues, schools and universities, non-profit organizations, professional conferences, and specialized workshops. Matteo is dedicated to building inclusive communities and honoring the lives of all beings. Matteo embodies the mission and vision of the Playback Theatre Method by co-creating art on the spot, exploring social dimensions, and upholding ritual and tradition.
Matteo is a founding member of the globally recognized ensemble Hudson River Playback Theatre, Inc. and has been a longtime collaborator with Playback Theatre Co-Founder Jo Salas. Matteo has attended and assisted Centre for Playback Theatre’s formal training courses including Leadership with Jonathan Fox and served on the North American program committee. Matteo has also pursued continued learning in movement methods, healing arts approaches, mindfulness practice, anti-racism, anti-oppression, and climate justice.
Matteo is a featured performer and co-facilitator in Hudson River Playback Theatre’s acclaimed school-based “No More Bullying” programs, which reached over 35,000 students, and the “Immigrant Stories” project, which was funded by the Dyson Foundation. Matteo assisted with translation and production of “Performing Playback Theatre DVD” and publication of “Half of My Heart/La Mitad de Mi Corazon.”
Matteo is a frequent visiting/teaching artist in schools and universities for applied arts, expressive arts, mindfulness, professional development, and wellness education programs. Matteo has led specialized Playback Theatre workshops and performances locally and internationally including the Mid-Hudson Region, Omega Institute, NYC, CT, DC, Amherst, Bay Area, Belize, Montreal, London, Frankfurt, & Assisi.
